What is it: “Coffee meets Bagel” is a dating website which started off in NY. It caters to large popular cities and is mostly for those on facebook and are tech savvy. General age of users are probably 25+. And since it started off in NYC, I’m thinking there is a diverse group of users. However, since the creators are Asian, I’m thinking it has more Asians than other dating sites.
How it works: It is free to join. When joining, you have to provide your cell phone number so that you can receive a text message confirmation. And credits aka Coffee Beans, are used on the site to unlock or perform actions. Coffee beans are either earned or purchased. Everyday around noon, you are sent a new bagel aka potential guy/girl. You are notified by email. You can Pass and wait til tomorrow’s bagel, Like the bagel and text message, Give to Friend this bagel, or do nothing and miss the bagel. Furthermore if you liked the bagel, then text messaging will occur between the Coffee (that’s you) and the bagel. No personal phone numbers are given out.
My thoughts: I’ve been signed up for a few weeks now. I think I’m finally getting the hang of things. Unfortunetly, being in CA it’s a little harder to get matched. The site started in NYC so there are a lot more bagels and coffees there. I’m not a big user of text messages on my phone and prefer free messaging apps like “Line”. I hate having to pay for text, so this dating method might not work out as you need to have text messaging turned on, which I don’t! Why pay for text messaging when you don’t have too, I mean I already have to pay for internet so why not take advantage of the internet I’m paying for to use a free messaging app 🙂 You know what, I’m going to have to write a review for the app “Line” next. I love it too much to pass off.
The bagel preference section is a overly simple, and not specific enough. The only thing about my bagel on my must have list is “he’s got to be tall”. I feel like a total monster when I taller then a guy. So when I’m looking for guys at least 5’11” and above, that’s not to hard. Nope sorry, Coffee meets Bagel doesn’t give you a height option in the preferences section. I keep on getting bagels under my height requirement.
OVERALL: So if you have unlimited text messaging, live in a popular city like NYC or Chicago, are a facebook user, and don’t have height issues, by all means give Coffee meets Bagel a try. Besides with such a cute name like Coffee meets Bagel, who can resist! Goodluck! (coffeemeetsbagel.com)
