Dog Treats, PART 2- Duck Treats: Natural Balance LIT Duck Jerky

Well, if Eclair’s tummy can have no problem with the kibbles and can, then why not the same brand’s jerky treats.

PRODUCT: Immunity Support Duck Jerky by Natural Balance, made in USA

DESCRIPTION: 4oz bag, semi-moist, flexible, easily torn to smaller pieces, made with helpful supportive ingredients; caution: strong odor.

NB immunity jerky

INGREDIENTS: Duck, Dried Potatoes, Sucrose, Vegetable Glycerin, Guar Gum, Salt, Sorbic Acid (preservative), L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Vitamin E Supplement, Citric Acid (preservative), Mixed Tocopherols (preservative), Rosemary Extract.

COST: $12 +/-

OVERALL: 7 human hands/8 dog paws – I like tearing the jerky into smaller pieces to hide and have her find them. The price isn’t too bad but when she eats them lightening fast it’s hard not to wish for a bigger bag. Only real problem I have is the preservatives. I’m not super happy with the preservatives used in the jerky or used in any of her treats or food, period.

Dog Treats, PART 2- Duck Treats: Stella & Chewy Carnivore Kisses

Now that Eclair has been transitioned to only duck, as a protein source, foods, she’s on Natural Balance LID Duck and Potato. After 42 days of transitioning her from Z/D to Natural Balance I’ve started to also introduce duck treats. And these duck treats, like her food, are grain free and only have duck as a protein source. (Another headache finding such things). So my first review is:

PRODUCT: Carnivore Kisses, Duck by Stella & Chewy. made in USA

DESCRIPTION: 2.5 oz of freeze dried duck meat piecescarnivore kisses Pictured: packaging and some pieces next to a sharpie to get a feel of the size.

INGREDIENTS: duck

COST: $11 +/- (I got mine at the local feed store)

OVERALL: 8 human hands / 9 dog paws  Over the top expensive for such a small amount, but super happy that its just duck with no preservatives, coloring, or additives. Plus it didn’t cause an IBD flare-up. Eclair doesn’t go super wild about them, might be the dull scent. It doesn’t give a strong meat smell.

Dog Treat, PART 1- Whimzees

So I’ve found out that not only is my dog a picky eater, she’s been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is not to be confused with IBS, irritable bowel syndrome.

Her treats and food journey is on going. And as a first time dog owner it’s and has been one hell of a journey. Eclair is currently on medication for life. She sees a internal medicine specialist for her tummy needs. Last year, for a full year was on only prescription diet and veggie treats. Thus the reason for my sudden departure in dog monthly subscription reviews. It’s too bad the monthly subscriptions can’t cater to specific doggy issues like IBD.

Today, my post is to highlight those veggie treats she’s been snacking on.

PRODUCT: Whimzees, made in Holland

Whimzees Pictured: The sharpie is there so you can mentally figure out the size of the chews. The stick closest to the sharpie is a large stix, followed by the green medium toothbrush, and medium orange stix. Above the stixes and brush is a hedgehog.

DESCRIPTION: 3 colors (green, tan, and orange). shapes in “stix”, “pig ear”, hedgehog, gator, crossbone, rice bone, and toothbrush. sizes ranging from 2.7″ to 7.5″. Chews are vegetarian and gluten free. The green (alfalfa) specifically have extra Vit K, C, and Bs. Oranges (annatto) specifically have extra antioxidants. Tans (malt) specifically enhance flavor.

INGREDIENTS: potato starch, glycerin, powdered cellulose, lecithin, brewer’s dried yeast, malt extract, annatto extract color, alfalfa extract.

COST: $16.99 for medium mix toothbrushes bag, $2.32 per pig ear, $2.00 per medium stix, $1.08 per medium toothbrush, $2.60 per large toothbrush (prices depend on retailers. I bought the bag at Petco and independents and pick up singles at independent feed stores.)

OVERALL: 10 human hands/9 dog paws. I’ve been giving her these chews for a year now. For a chew that’s only veggie, it keeps her teeth clean, mind engaged, and doesn’t cause her any IBD flare-ups aka diarrhea. Plus she actually likes them, specifically preferring the tan > orange> green.
